InnoAssistent | Optimized feed formulations
About the project
REPLOID Deutschland GmbH (formerly madebymade GmbH) is developing and implementing a systematic process at its Pegau site (Saxony) for formulating and optimizing feed recipes based on biogenic residues and waste materials for rearing black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae. This replaces the predominantly trial-and-error approach still common in insect feed development with a data-driven, scientifically grounded method that holistically considers macro- and micronutrients, physical substrate properties, and the larvae’s nutritional physiology.
The feed recipe products developed in this project are sold to operators of decentralized insect farms, improving their bioconversion efficiency, reducing production costs, and enabling the use of a broader range of regional organic residues.
Objectives
Establish a comprehensive nutrient database for organic residues and waste materials.
Develop and validate a systematic procedure for feed recipe formulation.
Optimize feed recipes using statistical experimental design and controlled trials.
Reduce process emissions (CO₂, NH₃) through optimized substrate compositions.
Develop marketable feed-recipe products with standardized product data sheets and a quality assurance system.
