InnoAssistent | Optimized feed formulations
About the project
REPLOID Deutschland GmbH (formerly madebymade GmbH) is developing and implementing a systematic process at its Pegau site (Saxony) for formulating and optimizing feed formulations based on biogenic residues and waste materials for rearing black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae. This replaces the predominantly trial-and-error approach still common in insect feed development with a data-driven, scientifically grounded method that holistically considers macro- and micronutrients, physical substrate properties, and the larvae’s nutritional physiology.
The feed recipe products developed in this project are sold to operators of decentralized insect farms, improving their bioconversion efficiency, reducing production costs, and enabling the use of a broader range of regional input streams.
Objectives
Establish a comprehensive nutrient database for organic waste streams
Develop and validate a systematic procedure for feed formulation
Optimize feed formulations using statistical experimental design and controlled trials
Reduce process emissions (CO₂, NH₃) through optimized substrate compositions
Develop marketable feed-formulation products with standardized technical data sheets and a quality assurance system
